No Cruising today
I can't even get to the harbor today. 12-16" of snow in Saint Louis. Sláinte will stay under her cover for another week at least.

Re: No Cruising today
We are above Lock & Dam 26, in the Alton pool. The "drop" varies from time to time, depending on the river stages. Today the drop is 11 feet. The later in the season the drop increases as the water is held back forming the pool. The greater the drop, the less current we have to deal with above the dam. During some floods the drop will be zero and the gates to the lock could actually be open. At these times the current is it's greatest and sailing becomes difficult. Locking through the dams is really quite easy. The Locks at dam 26 ( the Melvin Price dam) are some of the busiest in the country, but they can handle pleasure boats with great skill and ease. Come on up!

We will be in StL (your fair City perhaps) over the June 15th Weekend. Gonna see me some Red Birds vs Cubbies baseball.
I to sail on a navigational waterway. The drop below Lock & Dam 15 is 52'. Its quite a drop, but with a bit of practice, its not an issue. I think its the biggest drop on the system. Lock and Dam 14 (18 miles downstream) is only a 10-12' drop and #16 upstream is likewise only its a lift not a drop, going upstream at any rate.
