Peek-a-Boo Shutters

Post by Zeida »

Hi all... During this past Miami's Boat Show I purchased a complete set of the above mentioned shutters for my CD-33 Bandolera II.

For the past two years I had been curtain-less; after going through three different sets of curtains since 1997 (when I first got the boat), having to deal with finding a seamstress who would do them, then sewing those infamous tiny plastic tabs that go into the tiny grooves of the metal mounts over each porthole, and doing it over 30 times during those years, I had enough. Standing in front of the Zarcor booth at the boat show and seeing these Peek-a-Boo shutters, I knew I had found the solution.
They are not cheap... but boy, are they practical! Installation couldn't have been simpler. The hardest part was cleaning the glass in the portholes. Wipe clean with Glass Plus... voila! Stick the shutters up in place. What a delight. Here is how they look.

I also got a brand new boat leather kit for my wheel, which I'm proud to say I stitched myself! Makes me feel so luxurious!

How did you put the CDSOA logo on your table? Is it a decal, inlay, or other? Did you do it yourself?

John & Nancy... it is a decal I bought from the CD website. I did it myself. When time came I had to re-varnish my table, I dropped it in after the first coat, and proceeded to put on 4 more coats of varnish over the entire table. That was two years ago, still looks great. I do have a wheel and pedestal cover that protects it from the elements AND bird poop... It is probably the prettiest area of the boat. :D

I've had the Peek-a-boo curtains on Shana for about seven years and we love them. One problem to be aware of is the plastic poppits and o-rings that they slide on do get sun damaged and must be replaced. The company will replace them at no cost, but I would get a few to keep on board as spares they are easily replaced (same with the velcro). The main body of the shades shows no sun damage and are as good as new after all these years in direct sunlight.

Zeida, while the shades are very nice I just want to say that every picture I have seen of Bandolera II is spectacular. You have one of the cleanest, most put together Cape Dorys I have ever seen. Keep up the good work, Steve.

I have been aboard S/V Bandolera II several times. It is absolutely Bristol from the keel to the top of the mast. The bilge is spotless. The engine compartment is as well. A lot of time and effort by Zeida but it shows.
