Yanmar 8

Post by pete faga »

Good old boat has a yanmar 8 hp rebuilt with few hours for 1500 dollars listed under gear for sale. Sounds like a good deal for you 25d and27 owners.

Actually Pete, I have a 27' and when the original 8hp was in it to me, it was grossly underpowered. I now have a 16hp 2cyc fresh water cooled Yanmar and love it.

How did that change go? Was it difficult and or expensive. I too have a 27 and the YSM8. I would love to make the change.

The change went well. All told, the change over was about 8,500, but what a difference, you can go against any foul tide if need be. You do have to change to a 3-bladed prop but it didn't seem to slow the boat down sailing. With the 8hp, if you needed an extra uummph, you just didn't have it. I think in the later 27' they went to a bigger engine. Mine is a 1979 standard was the 8hp, or you could get an optional 12hp I think.
