Cheap whisker pole

Post by Ryan Turner »

Anybody know how to get a relatively inexpensive whisker pole? I'd like one for my CD33 but can't find a new one for less than about $650. Surely there must be a way to get/make one for a reasonable price.

For aluminum tubing, try www.airpartsinc.com
in Kansas City, KANSAS
1-800-800-3229
phone 913-831-1780
fax 913-831-6797

A family run business, GREAT service. They sell aluminum tubing by the foot, cut to length, NO MINIMUM ORDER.

I was able to salvage the end fittings from an old spinn pole, and make a new spinn pole, for a fraction of the cost. The tubing they sell in NOT ANODIZED. So, you will have to get it anodized, or paint it, or coat it some other way.

Hope this helps with your whisker pole.

BTW, I would like to hear about the solution you come-up with. The boat I race on (Hunter 30), has a very sick whisker pole that needs to be replaced and/or repaired. JM

Ryan,

I have a 12' (or possibly 14') piece of 3 inch dia. anodized 6061-T6 aluminum tubing in my garage. I'd go measure it but I'm in Durham for class tonight. I bought this tube several years ago to make a spinnaker pole but sold the boat and never made the pole. We can deal on the price, especially after you look at shipping costs and the fact that most other stuff isn't anodized. Call or email and we can discuss -- I'll be home this weekend.

Andy

P.S. Forespar fittings work with this tubing.
