NEED STEP FOR MAST

I have a 1974 CD25. I need a mast step ( foot) Does anyone know where I can pick one up or have it made?

They're kind of expensive and kind of quirky to deal with, but http://www.rigrite.com sells new ones.

Any local metal fabricator worth his salt can fabricate one for you.

Riversidecar, (An interesting name. Bet there's a good story goes with it.)

Whatever you do, DON'T lose the exact spot where the old shoe was attached. The position of the shoe controls the location of the butt of the mast. Since the upper mast hole is fixed, the location of the shoe is critical to so many things.

If the butt of the mast is moved say an inch, because of leverage, the top of the mast could possibly move a foot or more in the opposite direction. This change in location could mess up your shroud and stay lengths as well as your mast rake. The sails won't fit as well. In order to try to spring your mast in line, there will be extra force exerted on your standing rigging.

At the very least, try to save the screw holes where the old shoe was mounted.

As a last resort, if the shoe location is lost, there are other ways to restep your mast properly.

Things to consider when creating new mast step.

Is the bottom of the mast corroded or otherwise damaged and does it need to be cutoff? If so make the new step thicker to compensate for the material removed.

Do not forget to have a drainage grove cut in the new step.
