Info on Grounding Plate Bold on CD 33

Post by evan »

I had to replace one of the grounding plate bolts on my 330, but could only find a steel one at the time (the originals are copper I think.)
Foolishly, I did not write down the specs on this bolt and I need to get a replacement as I am going to put the boat back in the water in a few weeks. (It is in Florida, I'm in NY, so won't have a chance to look at the bolt before I get there.)

Does anyone happen to have the specs for this bolt (one of two that hold the grounding plate to the starboard side of the hull/keel.)

Thanks,
Evan

Thx,
The problem is I neglected to get the right dimensions needed for bolt/plate, not where to buy it...

Most likely they are bronze. Some of the plates come with gold-plated bronze but I'm not sure that's completely necessary. Probably 1/4in or 5/16 if my memory serves. If you buy 3-4in long you can cut off the extra length with a hacksaw. Buy two nuts and washers for each since the nut and washer mechanical fastening goes on first, followed by the electrical terminals, then an additional washer and nut. Use electrical grease on all the terminals. I like Hamilton Marine or Jamestown distributors for these. West Marine generally has them if you want to see them at the store.

Normally they use bolts of dissimilar metals. One gold the other bronze.

The Guest Dynaplate uses one plain silicone bronze bolt and one gold plated bronze bolt for the electrical connection.
Guest Models 4006 & 4008 use 1/4" fasteners 4012 & 4018 use 3/8" fasteners.

4 inches sounds right. I never throw away old hardware but accidentally did just that when I had my plate off a while back. What a pain. I'll try to measure the bolt size tomorrow for you.
