I had my decks Awlgripped ...

Post by Ryan Turner »

in order to refurbish the non-skid on my CD33. The results are beautiful and it did take care of the small spider cracks in the gel coat. I only did the non-skid area, not the entire topsides. I removed my own hardware and rebedded everything when the painting was done. It's quite a big job removing, cleaning, and rebedding all that hardware. Now I know that the job was done right though.

By the way, I did find areas in the deck where water had intruded the balsa core. Clearly it can migrate through the cracks and into the core. Most of the areas where water had intruded came from improperly bedded deck fittings. Out of five places that had water only one was not associated with a fitting of some sort. My total price tag was about $4,000.

Re: I cheated!

I cheated! Got lots of cracks-and the surveyor said not to worry, but I did not like the looks of cracks on the sides of the cabin top.

Since I had a sander handy, and a partial can of Petit Easypoxy, I went ahead and sanded the "infected" areas, and applied two coats of Easypoxy. So far, looks good, and the cracks have not not shown up!
Now, all I need is a year or two to really tell.

Total job was about an hour, a brush, and some tape to make it pretty.
