What's up with the Iron Cross?
I hoisted the kite on my the Ty I just bought over the weekend and it has this big blue WWI-like Iron Cross insignia on it. I know it's original (1970) because it was made by Manchester Sails. I feel like the "Blue Baron", scourge of the anchored fishermen!
This can't be a Ty thing, right?
Also, the boat has the old brass winches. Anyone know where I can get a handle for them? I called Bristol Bronze and they would have to make one custom for many dollars.

winch handles
Describe the winches and how the handles fit. I might be able to help you out.Marino wrote: I hoisted the kite on my the Ty I just bought over the weekend and it has this big blue WWI-like Iron Cross insignia on it. Re: winch handles
The last time I was in there (several years ago) San Farris Marine Salvage in Santa Barbara, California had a whole drawer full of the old style, flat handles that slide in from the side. You might also try Minney's. Minney's moved to a new building a year ago but I think they're still in Costa Mesa, California. I've seen various ones there from time to time. Minney's is also a salvage type place in case you don't know. I can get you the numbers and addresses if you can't find them.John R. wrote:Describe the winches and how the handles fit. John,
I've got a pair of Barlow #15 winches that I would like to find an old handle for. Thanks, Robert
I'm not particularly familiar with the Barlow 15 winch. I have a friend that runs a small consignment shop here in Florida and he's got a couple of my flat handles with the lock levers that fit the slotted old syle winches. He also has a few other styles and brands on display so if you can describe the Barlow handle you need I'll check and see if he's got one. I know he has some Barlow stuff but I can't remember exactly what.

Thanks for the offer. The handle I'm using now has a 8 point star that fits in the top of the winch. It works O.K. but I would like one a bit older without a red plastic handle. It doesn't seem to "fit" the boat. Any help will be appreciated. Maybe you could send me your friends telephone #. Thanks again. Robert

John,
Thanks for the reply, I just got back from a trip so I just saw all of your responses (thanks). Your friend, I think, may have what I'm looking for. I guess I just need to measure the width and thickness of the slot to be sure of the proper handle. If I can get your friends business information, I'd surely appreciate it.
Thanks,
Marino
