The current through-hull hole on my 25 is nearly at the water line, and I'm doing some glass work on the hull, so this a good time to reposition it. Does anyone have any advice as to where best to put it? It's on the starboard side now, and I'm thinking of just moving it up higher--that way I can still access it from the cockpit seats--but I'm sure there's a lot more to consider. Any suggestions? Mounting the pump itself is a long way down the road, but I need to figure that out as well...
Thanks for the thoughts.

Re: CD 25 bilge pump outlet
What is your concern?
If it is back siphoning you could install an anti siphon loop and never worry about weather the outlet is underwater when you shut down the pump.
If you raise it, there would be fewer situations where back siphoning would be a problem but it could still occur while sailing on a port tack. This is if you are talking about a pump mounted in the bilge. If it is a manual pump, mounted in the cockpit then a high loop will prevent siphoning.
If you do raise it, you could expect some hull staining. You might also consider where the bilge water will fall if you are tied up, starboard side, to a dock or you happen to be arriving at the boat in your dink when the pump cycles on, Steve.

Re: CD 25 bilge pump outlet
Thanks, Steve. My concern is that it would be underwater much of the time--I read that the exit should be well above the potential water line, and the boat's that I've looked at since then all have their bilge pump through-hulls closer to the gunwale than the water line. There was no through-hull in the boat when I bought the boat, so I thought this would be a good time to put it in the best place possible... I'm busy filling holes anyway, so one more won't be a big deal.

ps
I forgot to mention that the existing hole is in the middle of the chine, so the curvature of the hull doesn't allow the through-hull to seat evenly. When I bought the boat, they just had a length of hose hanging out of it.

Re: CD 25 bilge pump outlet
On my 25, the bilge pump emptied to the engine well, onto one of the fuel tank mounts. It was really difficult to get that area flooded in a following sea, and staining was not visible so I could defer cleaning until fall/spring refit. It never got very dirty though.
