problems with new software

With the old software, I could search for any post that mentions "typhoon". With the new software, I get the following error message:

"The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: typhoon.
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards."

So I can't search for "typhoon" because, I assume, it would return too many hits.

Anyone know a way around this problem?

Hi Dave,

The database is indexed and there's a common word threshold of 5%. Words and terms like "Cape Dory" and "Typhoon" appear in nearly every post, so the software is ignoring them. We'll see what we can do to fix that. In the meantime, be more specific with your search terms and try to include at least 2 or 3 words in your search (NOTE: common words like "the" are also ignored, so don't try to search on something like "the Cape Dory", right now that just won't work.)

We had to change the common word threshold and reindex the database. We think we've fixed the problem of not being able to search on word's like "Typhoon". Please give it a try.

I can now search for "typhoon". Thanks for fixing that.

I don't like the way the hits are returned as much as the old way (they were listed under the thread they appeared in and the thread title indicated whether you had read that thread before), but I can live with it.
