dingy numbering

Post by seadog6532 »

We are in the process of putting the registration numbers on our dingy and have a question. How do you get the registration sticker to stay on an inflatable dingy? Will it come loose when the dingy is deflated? Can we put it on the transom or just keep it in an envelope in the dingy bag? We are from Alabama but cruise Florida and Bahamas also. We are just wondering what other people have done. Thanks

Boat Number Plates

Post by Jim Evans »

I used these Boat Number Plates available here: http://boatnumberplate.com/inc/sdetail/4110/4082 . They've worked very well on my PVC inflateable for about 4 years; just be careful when you apply them by taping off the area and prepping the surface.

Stencil Kit (Item #450445 $10.99 at Defender). Works ok, looks sloppy
so no one will want to steal your dingy. The paint is rather runny so and
will need a few coats. It does seem to hold up well. I believe ours is about
6 years old now.

The registration sticker is also a problem. We added these "registration pockets"
for the stickers, they also sell larger ones for FL (and Maine fresh water).
They aren't really pockets but rather flat stiff panels. I have also seen people
put the stickers on the side of outboards and on the stern board, I'm not sure
how legal that is.

(Item #453772 at Defender, you also need the correct glue)

I use rubber letters / numbers and attach with Hypalon glue to the Hypalon hull. The registation sticker goes on a plastic plate just tied to rope hand holds. The plate was just cut from a full size plate made for the registration sticker and the hull numbers.
