Where do you get them :?:

What size, etc. do you use on your Cape Dory 25D :?:

I read a post by Cathy M. from 2-3 years ago that said Perry Nuts are no longer being made. Cathy said:

"The company that manufactured Perry Nuts is long out of business, so you won't find any Perry Nuts. Use Camp zincs instead."

If Perry Nuts are now being made again and are easy to install underwater, that sounds like what I would want for a zinc anode.

Thanks in advance Randy for any additional info on locating Perry Nuts.
Not sure as it was years ago that I bought 4. Still have ONE left. Maybe next years when I need to buy another I'll know..

And the correct Perry nut size for your CD 25D shaft is ................................ :?: :?:

I am assuming either 1" or 1 1/4".

P.S. I know very, very little about computers. I am barely able to function at email tasks, etc. I still cannot figure out how to post photos on this website - something I would like to learn how to do with my new-to-me Cape Dory 25D.

However, for some reason (perhaps because it was one of the first things I learned to do) when I first got my first computer (which I still use) I spent time "searching". I found it fascinating to be able to read about stuff that in years past I would have had to go to the library to read, if they even had it on the shelf. Sadly, it has not helped with my efforts to pass the GED tests. 8 attempts; 8 failures.

Donut Zinc

Post by Joe Myerson »

I replaced the zinc on Creme Brulee's propeller shaft for the first time this past spring. But even when she was stored at a yard, I would remove the old zinc so I could spray the shaft and propeller with zinc anti-barnacle spray.

The boat has always had a donut zinc on the shaft, and I replaced it by bringing the old zinc to Defender and matching it against a bin full of zincs. Of course, this means that I never actually measured the thing.

It was a very tight fit--there might have even been a small space, but it seems to have worked adequately. (I'll know more in mid-October, when I haul the boat.)

The shaft anode on my boat is mounted on the end of the shaft. It’s secured to the shaft with a cotter key.

This is a 1985 CD25D and they may have used a different anode than the clam shaped anodes that I saw mentioned in earlier posts. There isn’t room on the shaft for that type anode.

Ill take a photo of what I have if that would help.

Thanks

It seems that the anode used is a “Perry Nut” with a 1/8” cotter key. I’m assuming the anode is threaded and screws onto the end of the shaft. I put penetrating oil on it yesterday and removed the key.

I hope that works for today and then I hope I can find a replacement. :)

I got rid of the perry nut because the zincs were hard to find. If you replace the end nut with this, new zincs are easy to find and cost about $15.
