I'm just so amped!!!
Sitting at my dock on the Oswego River Canal is a Cape Dory 14 I just towed home. I have been looking at this boat since the 70s hanging in a boathouse never has it been in the water other than when it came off it's sling and sank right there. The owner is getting on and has sold his house and accepted my offer to buy it! Now It will be my winter project and boy- o- boy am I gunna need some info!!!!! It is in very good shape but the sail is not and the riggin is a big question. I am quite psyched!!!!!!!!!

I gotta ask . . .
First, congratulations on a great boat!
How does this happen that a brand new boat sinks? I have a feeling there's a pretty good story here.plumber wrote: . . . never has it been in the water other than when it came off it's sling and sank right there.

A normal boat house is strap front and rear. an open boat house provides no protection from the wind and the boat starts swinging , bow strap slides off , bow goes into water ass end still in the air! Sorta looks like the Titanic!!
When it comes to sinking boats I have some experence here. In 2008 wife and I bought a (new to us) 32' Eastern Orient ( Brewer design ) almost pristine. Closed on in March, brought home in June, Hurricane Ike promptly sunk it in September in Oswego Harbor, Lake Ontario, New York!!!! She is still in my side yard about 60% done and hope to have her in the water spring 2012.
