CD30 Rubbish

Post by Murray Glue »

Does anyone have any good ideas about what to do for a daily garbage container on the CD30 ?? We have entertained the idea of cutting a hole in the bench by the sink, and recessing a a plastic bin. There does not seem to be any obvious place, other than this, to fit a bin.
The space under the ice box is too small....

I found a trash receptacle that fit aft of the engine under the engine lid. I have since replaced my stove/oven with an origo 2 burner and now there is plenty of space under the stove where the oven combo used to hang.

I have considered doing this since I don't use the oven and would like the extra storage. Can you give me some info regarding what you did with the new space? Have you enclosed the front? Shelves, etc.

Thanks in advance.

In our CD30 there is a small cut-out forward of the ice box, behind the drawer that we use for a trash receptical. We just stuff a plastic kitchen bag in there.....it's held in place by the little lid that covers the cut-out and your in biz'ness.

Murray,

For 10 years now, we have used the trash bin I built into our CD30. It's located in the engine space, just under the top step and behind the removable steps. We are able to hold 2-3 days worth of rubbish on average.
Here's how we did it:

I bought a Rubbermaid trash can, approximately 12 in. tall, and oval in shape. I drilled two holes in the trash can, and into the wood of the companionway steps. Next, I used two S.S. screws with the largest shoulder washers available, to hold the trash can attached to the back of the step assembly. We use a 2 gal. trash can liner for the trash bin.

Cheers!

I have not done anything fancy with it yet. For now the trash can is bungy corded to the settee bulkhead and I keep pots and pans in a milk crate type of storage container on the angled rise. just forward of that is a bucket with day to day cleaning supplies. I am in the process of turning that whole area into cupbourd space with a tilt out trash can. I expect I will keep the same stuff there only it will look better.

CD 27 Rubbish

Murray:

I don't have a 30 but the setup on my 27 might be interesting to you.

On the 27 there is a large recessed storage area, open on the top, between the stove top and the hull. I have two brass spring hooks screwed into the liner above that area. When not using that compartment for food and supplies (such as on daysails), I attach one of those throwaway plastic foodmarket shopping bags, one handle to each hook. It is very convenient and when full, just replace with a fresh bag.
