Hi, everyone-
Proud new owner of a 1979 Weekender sailing out of Camden, Maine.
I have managed to remove the drum from a frozen winch. Now I have the pawls, springs, base/shaft, and drum.

My question is this: should the plastic looking sleeve from the drum (viewed from the bottom) come out? It seems to me that the only way the winch would spin would be if that was spinning?
Or is the drum indeed a single piece. And I just grease the shaft and drum and reattach? (Leaving aside the mystery of how this could all spin once the screw was back in the top of the drum and into the shaft.)
Many Thanks,
Robert

Drum
I'm remembering when I did mine. There was a white plastic key that is flush with the black drum. It looks like it is molded in but comes right out. Then you can properly clean and re-grease everything.
