Recently acquired a CD27, which came with a North Genniker. The boat was never rigged with a halyard led outside the headstay, as I understand is pretty much required for any spinnaker, asymmetrical or otherwise. (This may explain why the sail looks brand new.)
I have the stock CD27 masthead truck, which doesn't look like it has a lot of room to fit a halyard block. So, before I try to "imagineer" something I'll hate later, would those of you who fly spinnakers please consider sending along some sage advice? Thanks in advance!

I am also interested in hearing from other CD27 owners who fly spinnakers.chuck yahrling wrote: Recently acquired a CD27, which came with a North Genniker. Gary,
I installed a standard spinaker bail on top of the masthead. It is a flat plate with a horizontal D ring at one end. The plate is bolted to the forward top of the masthead. The horizontal D ring "hangs" over the forward edge of the masthead stem piece. Since the forestay connection to the masthead is aft of this, a simple swivel block is attached to the D ring. I installed a new halyard for the spinaker and a new mast cleat which was similiar to my main halyard mast cleat.

Like Dana, we installed a stock fitting. We got it from RigRite, who could send us the correct size for the CD 27 without us having to go to the masthead and make measurements. Then, with the mast unstepped for the winter, it was an easy matter to drill and tap the masthead fitting to accept SS machine screws.

The asymmetrical spinnaker on my CD27 works fine with
the standard halyard. A whisker pole however is a
desirable addition in the funky summer air here on the
Chesapeake.
Good luck.
