Need Advice‹Engine Pull Opportunity

Post by Geoff Safron »

Back in November, a sheet line fouled the prop on my CD30 ('78, Hull #97), which yanked the 13hp MD7A right off all four motor mounts (I know, youch!) The insurance company has been great, and is covering an engine pull, tear-down, reassembly and re-fit, with an open-ended claim in case they discover any internal damage as a result of the sudden torque. In trying to make lemonade out of lemons, I'm looking at this as a golden opportunity to address any skeletons lurking in closets. I'd appreciate any advice about wear, tear and abuse to look into in the engine and S-drive itself; even if it turns out not to be a product of the fouling, it could be an economical time to fix other drive-train-related things; also, are there any maintenance, repair, or upgrade items which would be infinitely easier to deal with while the engine is out? Thanks, and Happy New Year!
