What make and model would be the best choice of 4-stroke outboard to add to a 1973 or 1975 CD25 ? I know the size of the engine well
limits your options. Exhaust through the prop would be nice as would ability to steer the engine in the well. (are there any suitable models with fresh water input for flushing the engine?) How many horsepower do I need to handle emergency situations? Is electric start very helpful?

I can't speak for the particular year of the boat but I installed a Nissan 9.8 and it has more than enough power to do the things asked of it. You might check this site for further discussion on horsepower. Although my engine has electric start, I do not use it. The engine is equipped with an alternator which I find very convenient for battery charging away from the dock. Hope this helps.
