Deck Core Thickness of a CD 30

Post by Jacksail »

I am getting ready to open up my deck and deal with a wet core.
Does anyone know the thickness of the balsa core on an 86 CD 30?
Thanks very much

It's 3/8" -- I just did several small spots and one fairly large area.

Looking at recoring a section of the bow on my CD 30B and wanted to see if folks would confirm the 3/8 thickness for the coring material. I did my cockpit for my CD 28 four years ago and it was 1/2 inch but I figured that perhaps it was made a bit thicker due to the expected use.

Just for everyone’s knowledge, the core thickness for a 1986 Cape Dory 30 is in fact 3/8 inch. Replace a section (see photo) yesterday, project took about 4 hours start to finish (skin off to skin back on….sanding and faring to be done)

Was wondering why I had a strange look on my face in the photo and then the photographer remineded me that the photo shows the moment that I realized that my rag was getting really really hot…smoking actually! Live and learn.
