We installed the Lowrance HDS-8 and BR24 last summer. It is our first radar and is used on the coast of Maine.
I used and suggest the web site: panbo.com for research. Search on Lowrance radar and you will find extensive testing starting in the summer of 2009.
We give the radar 5 stars. Have not experienced strobing. The close-in definition is amazing - kayaks at 100 ft.
