I have a '81 CD 25 in excellent condition with varnished wood topsides. I am considering adding a teak flooring to the cockpit floor to keep your feet dry and to add beauty. Is that a good idea? A boat carpenter offered do it for $1200 parts + labor, that sound reasonable?
Also, I want to make the wood inside the boat more attractive. Much of it is ply with a coating. Should I sand it and re-stain? Any suggestions?

LIQUIDITY has a teak cockpit grate and I like it. It adds some weight, if that's a consideration. Be careful in the design that the cockpit drains will still bail the boat.
As for cost, it's a lot of wood and a fair amount of work. West Marine sells the components, pre-notched for grating... you can get an estimate of the cost of materials by checking their catalog. That will narrow the question of whether the carpenter is being fair about the cost of his time.
