MD7a

Post by rorik »

Anyone need bits and/or pieces of a Volvo MD7a?
It runs, but will not put water through the transmission. I have enough on my plate without rebuilding a 30 year old engine so I am going to re-power. I will start removing it this coming week so I can get the space ready for the new engine.

How much do you want for the starter, water pump, and alternator?
We will be leaving to sail south in a few weeks and could use some spares.

I don't think I can help you with the cam - not sure I want to spend the time to take the engine down that far to get it out - but I'm more tan willing to send you the handle and the cover with the "obsolete" spring pin. On the other hand, I don't want to risk dinging up my companionway with a 400# chunk of cast iron either. So, as I take peripherals off, I may very well end up taking the head off just to make it easy to carry it up the dock. If I do, you can have a cam. How's that for thinking out loud?

Well, the adventure was delayed a week because of network/computer issues and a boat show (not mine)..... sooooo.... I finally started taking the engine apart to get it out of the boat. Those of you who pm'd me - I just sent updates to you. If anyone needs a flywheel, air intake, or other odd bits, let me know. I think the starter, alternator, water pump, fuel lines and head are spoken for.
I'll try to get pictures up later.

Well, removing that MD7 was a lot more fun than I was led to believe.... :D And now, looking at all that empty space, I almost hate to put an engine back in there. On a 28' boat, it almost doubles the size of the cabin.. well...almost.. :D
