Using a whisker pole

Post by Doug Oliver »

The CD33 I bought last fall came with a forespar whisker pole and I have used it a lot this summer but I'm not sure I am using it correctly. The problem I seem to have quite often is the pole sliding down the line in light air or inconsistant air during the lulls. Is there some trick that I'm missing?

Use a topping lift to keep the pole up in place and prevent it sliding back to the shrouds. On my 31 its easy - I just swap the staysail boom topping lift to the whisker pole. On a 33 you would need to rig a separate topping lift.
