Md 7a fuel injection pump leak

Post by jack Kelley »

My mechanic has found a leak behind plate on said pump and has replaced a new gasket behind the plate. Continues to leak from this plate. Mechanic wonders if this is because the gasket material he used was thicker than original. This is a CAV pump on CD 30. He will do his homework this week and we will discuss further. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,

CAV Injection

I had this same problem myself maybe five years ago. My mechanic at the time (a real Volvo pro) told me that the gasket was not available. He used a liquid gasket material to create a new seal, and left the cover somewhat loose while the (gasket) material set. Once the material set, the cover was tightened down, and I haven't had a problem with leaks since.

Since a re-built pump is a major investment, might be worth giving it a try.

pump gasket kit

Post by sealark »

There is a company on EBAY - Mylex International - that sells a gasket rebuild kit for the CAV pump for $27. They told me that this kit includes all the gaskets for the pump. They also have a rebuild service - where you send them the pump - and if it can be rebuilt with the standard kit - it is something like $350. If you do a search on EBAY for CAV DPA - it should come up.

I ended up having mine professionally rebuilt locally - it wasn't cheap - $600 - but it is basically brand new.

Since the 2007 change in diesel fuel we had a lot of CAV pumps start leaking. They usually leak where the levers for the kill and throttle go thru the top cover. Any ways, seal kits are readily available for this pump.

Thank you for info re: MD7A fuel; leak

Post by jack Kelley »

Thanks to all for the info re: the pump leak. I did not indicate that it is actual diesel fuel leaking from behind this plate. Is this what others have experienced and not oil?

Thanks again!
