Home Safely from Bermuda Bound

Post by GeorgeV »

Hello,

For those who may have been following Isabelle's little adventure to and from Bermuda on the internet, the transponder on the boat quit working, I think it got too wet from all of the water we took over the deck during several of our little storms (it blew 35-40 knots for nearly 4 hours one day). The day it failed I believe was the day we had sailed nearly 12 hours with a wave spilling into the cockpit about every other minute.

It was nice to get out of the Gulf Stream Monday morning as both the wind and the waves finally settled down some and life got a little easier aboard the boat..

We cleared customs in Westbrook, CT around 5:00 pm on Tuesday and were back on our mooring by 9:00 that evening.

It was a great trip and I will have more on it later.

Glad Isabelle, her captain and crew all made it back safely.

I didn't know that Westbrook was a port of entry. I guess you did the telephone thing.

Customs

Post by GeorgeV »

Cathy,

We tried to clear by phone but the customs people required us to clear in person and Westbrook, CT (Pilots Point Marina) is just 2 hours from my mooring. Westbrook is one of I think 3 ports of entry in Connecticut.

I think all the other boats cleared by phone but I guess we were just "special" and the customs agent was looking for something to do.

Take care

Welcome home!

Perhaps customs was alerted to the fact that young seaman Meyerson is fluent in Russian, among other suspect attributes (such as serving as editor of a notorious left-wing radical periodical that most recently included a page or more of coded messages artfully disguised as Japanese poetry).
