This year the Northeast Fleet is holding their annual July 4th Float-in on Saturday and Sunday, July 3rd and 4th, in Northport Harbor, NY.

We will be meeting on Saturday in the area north of the mooring field off the eastern shore of Little Neck. For those that can stick around on Sunday, the Village of Asharoken will be shooting off their fireworks Sunday evening. CLICK HERE for event details and to register.

Hi Gang,

Our boat's not in the water and probably won't be launched this year -- long story.

But we'd like to participate in the July 4th float-in at Northport, NY, especially since I'm one of the folks that helped plan the event. So that means we'll be driving. But first we have to find hotel accommodations in/near Northport. It's a holiday weekend so I don't know how successful we'll be. Anyway, if we can find a place to spend the night during the holiday weekend, and a place to leave the car, we'll need somebody to pick us up from shore via dinghy and take us out to the CD party boat -- to bring us back too.

But then again we might not even need to drive all the way to Northport since I've only received one registration. One boat does not a rendezvous make. So, if you plan to attend, please register ASAP so that the rest of us can plan our trip.

I had such a great time meeting you all in the raft up two years ago.

The day of the deadline for registration, which is June 30th, I will provide a list to those that have registered. Everyone will get a list that includes the names of all the boats, the captains and crew, as well as contact info.

We'd certainly like to be there, particularly since it's only a tack away, but a crew member on crutches may keep us sidelined. However, if you're still going by car, there's the Chalet Inn, in Centerport. About a 5 minute drive to Northport, or walking distance to Centerport Harbor for pick-up. http://www.chaletinnandsuites.com/ Never stayed there, so can't comment much on it beyond driving past it a lot.

I want to remind everyone once again not to forget their dinghies AND that we'll need to be picked up in one on Saturday July 3rd. If any of the boats are sticking around for the fireworks on the 4th, we'd like to join them out in the harbor for that too. So we'll need a dinghy ride to/from shore on the 4th as well.
