CD 26 Outboard Motor

I noticed that the literature for this boat references that the well has room for a 15 H.P. motor. Does anyone have a 15 H.P. or researched putting one in. I have a 9.9 Johnson but wondered what other motors folks have found to work best with this model.

i have a honda 15 which works great. never regretted having the extra juice. most 15's are just souped-up 9.9's. mine has the same powerhead, a bigger carb jet, higher rpm on the governor and a bigger alternator. you may be able to redo your 9.9 if you want more power cheap.

As John has pointed out, the 9.9 and 15HP are many times the same physical sized motor. For my 26, I decided not to go after just the "HP" number. Mine is a Yamaha 9.9 four stroke with a 11-3/4" diameter prop that has only a 6" pitch. As such it has substantial thrust without cavitaton but will not take you over 6 knots. Working at lower RPM, more thrust force is available (for the right prop diameter/pitch) for the same RPM. RPM x Thrust= HP Thus I have quite a bit of forward force over a steep wave or head wind. A 15HP rating at say 5400 RPM has little merit for me vs one with 3500-4500 max RPM rating. Therefore I tend toward lower RPM, high thrust, for around 10HP for the 26.
