Hurth transmission overhaul kit
Raven is coming along but I am beginning to get very worried about finding an overhaul kit for the transmission.
The main reason I brought her home was to pull the engine and rebuild the transmission. It is a Hurth HBW 50 and I have been shopping for a master overhaul kit for well over a month now. I ordered with two different companies and they have both eventually informed me that the kit is on back order.
Any ideas out there on where to get one of these kits or should I be dropping the whole unit off somewhere to have it rebuilt by a company that might have the parts? It is the gaskets, seals and clutch plates that I am looking for.
It is getting late and I do want to go back in this year.
I don't find this stuff amusing anymore, Steve.

Try Hansen Marine in Marblehead. What ever you do DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT ever deal with Foley Engines in MA. This guy is 250% CROOK!

You might have some luck asking on the Lats & Atts forum.

Many, many engines use that tranny. You might get parts from some boat company that uses that engine. The Volkswagen diesel uses it in their marine version. Also you might get parts in Canada. There used to be a guy with a company called "Pathfinder" in Canada who rebuilt them and was a good guy to deal with. I don't know if he's still around or not. I used to have his number and address, but I can't put my hand on the old phone book at the moment. If I find it I'll pass it along to you. The Perkins little three cylinder diesel used it also as I recall.

Hansen gets my vote
Steve,
Let me second Maine Sail's recommendation of Hansen. I've never used them, but my former company dealt with them for years, and everybody I know who has contacted them speaks very highly of them.

I took a workshop at Hansen. They seem to be a first-rate outfit.

I got a repair parts for our ZF-10 from MER Equipment (http://www.merequipment.com.) They have parts for the Hurth 50 as well. Very nice to work with. I originally ordered the wrong parts and they corrected the order and sent parts immediately. I received the new parts in Green Turtle Cay, Abacos, Bahamas, in two (2) days (I had to arrange transport from Ft. Lauderdale.) I was able to return incorrect parts upon return to states for full credit.
