Changing fuel filter on universal m25

After two hours of wrestling with the fuel filter on the universal M25, I was able to loosen it up and remove it. I could not loosen up the bleeding plug on top of the filter, so I bled the lines near the injector lines. The engine runs well, but the design of the engine well makes it difficult to get to that filter. I cut a ratchet wrench to make it smaller. There is only about 1 inch of play to turn out the filter.

I agree. In the CD31, it's a friggin bear, and you are bound to spill quite a bit of fuel. I get at it thru an opening in the cavity where the galley trash can resides. But it is a big time pain in the ass, for sure. (I am on a 3-year cycle for this filter, but every year for the primary filter.)

As for bleeding, I don't think you will ever have to bleed there anyway. I just changed my primary filter (I make sure it is full before I thread it on). The engine started easily without any bleeding at all. The electric fuel pump is a nice feature in this regard. I have in the past bled it at the injectors, but that does not seem to be necessary.

After five years, I think I can say that I like this engine very much. (Until it's time to change that secondary filter!)
