Rigging work, blister work, gel coat work, Chesapeake Bay

Post by Brad »

Well the ink has dried and I'm a boat owner again. It is not a Cape Dory this time (sorry), but I needed a 3 SR boat for extended cruising over the next few years. We will be based out of Chesapeake Bay, wandering about, exploring as we go. The Bahamas and the Caribbean are on the itinerary over the next few years.

Before we begin however, I need to take care of some maintenance items highlighted by the purchase survey. I am looking for recommendations for yards to do some light blister repair, strip, paint, and re-rig the mast, and to to some touch up on a few areas of the gelcoat.

Do any of you have experience with different yards (contractors)doing this type of work? Naturally I'd like to haul the boat and do it all at once. I've talked to a few that were very eager to do a complete peel and rebuild on the bottom even after explaining the minor issues I'm facing. (Can't be too careful when it comes to blisters you know!) Potential candidates can be anywhere on the Bay, but since I'm currently in central Virgina I'd prefer those on the western shore. I've had good referals for Oxford Marine in Oxford, MD and Generation 3 Marina in Cambridge, MD both on the eastern shore, so any input here would be appreciated as well.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm sure they will help us get on with the adventure ahead of us.

Congratulations, Brad....

We'll be out at the end of May for 2-3 weeks. Let us know if you're planning to be in the water and wandering then.
