I have been considering buying a new engine for my CD25 but am concerned that most engines I have looked over 5hp seem to be too large to fit in the engine well. Also, I am interested in any opinions on what is the optimum engine size for a CD25(weight vs hull speed). Any input is appreciated.

How large of an engine can you fit in the well of a CD25?

Jim,
I have a Johnson two-cycle 8hp with a 15" shaft. It is very light and moves the boat easily. I lowered the bracket to get the cover to close and ensure good depth for the prop.

I replaced a 1987 15hp 20" johnson[tight/just fit] with a 6hp 20",2 cycleYamaha as recommended by others. Easy fit and told it will do the job intended-Sufficient power with a sailpropJim Vodden wrote: I have been considering buying a new engine for my CD25 but am concerned that most engines I have looked over 5hp seem to be too large to fit in the engine well. 1. We have a 2-stroke 6hp Suzuki. Its light, fits easily in the well and moves the boat very well in the strong Cape Fear River currents. It is very easy to remove and install while underway.
2. There are 2 other CD25s in my area, Southport, NC. Both have 4-stroke 5hp Honda outboards. Both owners rave about this engine.

I recently put in a Nissan 8 hp 2 stroke, which fits very well and no modifications were needed at all. Sweet engine all around. Try cabellas website (www.cabellas.com) for a good deal, but wait for the sale right after the spring rush. Comes with a 3 gal plastic tank, but I want to upgrade to a 6 gal steel tank that the CD25 well was designed for.
