We're in need of a swim ladder, perferably a fold up to hang off the transom. Any suggestions? I understand there is a company in CT that makes them for CD30's but I don't have a clue who they are or if the ladder is any good. Thanks, Jim

Swim Ladder for CD30

Re: Swim Ladder for CD30
Jim,
You might want to consider a different location than the transome for placement for the swim ladder. There have been a number of posts regarding good locations here on the CCDOA website over the last few years. The conventional wisdom puts the swim ladder on either sider so as to avoid the pitching that one would expect normally. Helps to avoid having the stern bonk the swimmer on the head.

Re: Swim Ladder for CD30
Jim,
I installed a swing up ladder two years ago on the stern of my CD30. It works pretty well. I actually installed it because of a recommendation from my surveyor. He labled it as a mandatory safety item, and the insurance company agreed. It can be swung down by a swimmer in the water if tied up with a slip knot. The biggest hassle is climbing over the stern pulpit. I just saw a post on building a doorway in the pulpit which I will do this summer. The ladder I used is from West Marine, Hinged transom Ladder, Model 115550, 36" x 16", $149.00.
I think a removable ladder athwartships at the lifeline door would be a good idea. Now was it port side for owner and stbd side for crew or visa versa.?
