Ok, found this great place that sold me a used mainsail (guess its off a hurricane boat) for my cape dory 28. problem is the foot is 11'/ 4" and I think the foot should be 12'/6" , will this really be a "big" difference in performance?. Or should I just call Steve at Atlantic Sail Traders, Florida and thank him. ? he did send a T shirt.

You are correct, E = 12.5'. A main with a foot of 11' 4" should be OK. It depends on the way the out-haul is rigged, and how the sail is cut, and how you plan to sail the boat. Put the sail on the boat and see if it performs to your liking. GOOD LUCK.

Re: mainsail 28 Cd,
While the E is, in fact, 12.5, the foot of the sail on my spec sheet shows 12'2". Which is a fer piece from 11/4.
