The Movie "White Squall"

Post by Sea Hunt »

A "good friend" videotaped or "Tivoed" (sp?) a movie called "White Squall". I just finished watching it on her TV set up. Not sure how she did it.

Excellent movie, although the ending was/is a little anticlimactic. Story of a USCG licensed sailboat captain who, along with his spouse, takes onboard 8-10 high school students in a sailing adventure on board on square rigger named "Albatross". I recommend the movie. Very interesting.

Apparently, the term "white squall" is a sudden and violent windstorm at sea that is not preceded by black clouds that are generally characteristic of squalls and refers to white-capped waves and very mixed seas. White squalls are apparently common on the Great Lakes.

Yes, I know. Posts are to be associated with Cape Dory sailboats. :) For the record, I presently own a Cape Dory Typhoon Weekender but I am considering enlarging my fleet to include a Cape Dory 25D or, possibly, a Cape Dory 27.
Fair winds,

Robert

The sail training vessel in the movie "White Squall" is Eye of the Wind http://www.eyeofthewind.net/

I had the good fortune to serve as her Liaison Office for Tall Ships 2000 Bermuda and to spend time with "Tiger" her restorer and Captain. Beautiful pics of her on her website. Good movie too and a true story!
