Cape Dory 25

Post by Pete Sorensen »

I have been looking at numerous Cape Dory 25's in the past six months. Most are in reasonable shape given their age (1973-1977). Does anyone have an idea what the value for the basic boat should be. I realize this is a very subjective question given the various electronics, sail sets and other options available or added. Most are in sailable condition and would require a some elbow grease and some soap and water to clean them up. Any help would be appreciated.

No idea. However maybe ten years ago when buying a CD25,
I plotted a graph of the asking price against year of
manufacture and found it was easy to draw a line through
the points. I got the data from magasines and 'Want Ads'
over a period of months. Today you have also the Internet
for collecting data.

A couple of boats were way above the line which lead me to
reject them as unreasonable. This was appropriate as I was
looking for a sound basic boat and not interested in boats
that were 'loaded'.

Check out the Boat US valuation service. They'll tell you what other CDs are selling for in any given part of the country. Here's the link.

There's another posting on this board about CD25 prices on 3/29/00.

I paid $6200 for mine

Post by Chris »

I bought an early model (hull #12) with the all mahogany interior. It was in good shape with 3 sails, head and electrics. I paid $6,200 two summers ago. I think I got a good deal compared to other prices I have seen.

Chris:
I've been sailing CD25, hull #13, for more than 20 years. I've recently been looking for others with the mahogany interior. Do you have any idea at what hull number the interior and deck mould was changed?
