Weehawken, NJ Yanmar mechanics and haul out facility

Post by Sea Hunt »

Two completely hypothetical and totally unrelated questions

If a guy wanted to have a certified Yanmar mechanic inspect and test a 27 year old 1GM10 engine on a sailboat located in the water at a marina in Weehawken, NJ, who would he contact - name and ph no. :?:

If another guy wanted to have a sailboat located in Weehawken, NJ hauled out (for a marine survey and/or to be put on a transport truck) what marina would you recommend in the Weehawken, NJ area :?:

Thanks.
Fair winds,

Robert

Congrats! Those "hypothetical" questions sure sound like you've found a "prospective" CD25D!

Good luck!

It was a while ago but I used Paul Case at R T Associates Marine Surveyors Atlantic Highlands NJ (732) 291-7400. He is pretty familiar with Cape Dory's

Can't help on haulout except perhaps Liberty Landing Marine in Jersey City (close to Weehauken).

Doug Stoudt is a local mechanic, but I can't find a number for him, I'll keep searching my files

You may have to wait for Cathy's reply :)

Mack Boring can get you a top-notch mechanic out of Union. I use Precision Marine in New Rochelle, NY. They have excellent Yanmar specialists for both small and large engines, but you would pay a price for them to drive over to Jersey.

Doug's Company name is Marine Engine Service.
His number is 732 241 2582. I can't recommend him highly enough.

Case McDaniel if you need a surveyor. Paul and Jeff have joined forces. 732-291-0052 -O, 732-768-0990 -Mobile,

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions so far. I will try to make some preliminary calls early this week.

I have also sent e-mail requests to several boat transport companies but have not heard back from anyone yet. I want to try to get an idea of the costs these days to transport a CD 25D from NJ to Miami, Florida. I am told the prices are up, especially at this time of the year, and there is again a significant fuel surcharge being tacked on to the base price.

Robert

Lockwood Boat Works - Morgan, NJ

Post by Cathy Monaghan »

Hi Sea Hunt,

We keep our boat at a boat yard in Morgan, NJ where the mechanics are VERY busy. But they're good -- at least we haven't had any problems with any of the work we've had done there -- and they're expensive. I can't vouch for anyone else's experiences with them. But boats are brough there from all around the area (from both NY and NJ) just to have them worked on by the folks at Lockwood's.

Morgan's a daysail away from Weehawken (south and west, about 20 nm) and the boat yard, Lockwood Boat Works, is located on a small creek off the Cheesequake Creek at the southwestern end of Raritan Bay.

I mentioned earlier that the mechanics are very busy, so you'll have to get in line. That means that you may have a long wait to get any work done since there will be a pile of work orders ahead of yours. So if you want them to work on an engine for you, submit your workorder ASAP. It has to be a written workorder, you can't just ask them to do something for you or it'll never get done. And be very specific when filling out your workorder. They won't do anything that's not on it.

Hey Sea Hunt

Good Luck with everything.

I used "Load a Boat" to ship my CD22 and was pleased with them.

Contact Scott 877 277 2628

They were recommended by Oldragbaggers on this board.

$2200 took a CD 22 from Houston to Los Angeles.
