Books
I am about to purchase a 'down-on-her-luck' CD25 and I'm wondering about some advice books to help me bring her back to 'shipshape'. Two of Don Casey's intrigue me. His 'Illustrated Sailboat Maintainance Manual' and 'This Old Boat'. Can anyone tell if these books are complementary or repetitious? Is one preferred over the other?

The Don Casey volumn is a combination of several of his books:

Cheaper than buying the separate books.
I don't think you get much more in the This Old Baot Book.

One thing I guess to mention about "This Old Boat" is that it was just re-released this year as a second edition (2009.) However just poking about and reading reviews on amazon it would seem that the 'Illustrated Sailboat Maintainance Manual' (a book I was unaware of till now) is indeed a combination of his "other books"
Considering the size of the book (896 pages) and owning several of Don Casey's books already, my guess would be that much of the material in "This Old Boat" is included.
All that being said, I own "This Old Boat" and consider it the best all around reference for boat repair there is. My only gripe is that at 11" x 8.75" it's a bit large for a boat book. At least as a boat book on a small boat.
The only way you can go wrong purchasing a Don Casey book is to find out that he has ANOTHER book with even more material in it I've made this mistake several times it's not such a bad mistake as mistakes go.

Meddler and Will:
Like you guys, I'm doing a restoration (on a CD27) and have been looking online for advice. I've read Casey's books and he really has a lot of technique in repair advice that's invaluable. "London Goes to Sea" has little in the way of "how to" but instead is mostly a narrative of what he did to restore the boat.
Fred is rebuilding an S2 and will be our featured speaker at the CDSOA conference Nov 6 & 7th. MAybe we can corner him and pick his brain.

Books
Thanks for all the help everyone. I've ordered Casey's Illustrated boat maintenance book. I think I'll take pass on a the anxiety and phobia texts as I feel of got the equivalent of a Phd in those subjects already. And financial management has never been my long suit, my usual method is to keep spending until the money's gone. Then stop for awhile and replenish the till. It's pretty basic, the trick not get sucked into the debt vortex.
In early November I expect to pick up my new/old boat CD25 in Rhode Island, then truck her home to the frozen north and get to work on her.
Again many thanks,
The Meddler

Trim refinishing
My husband is interested in books that have information about refinishing and/or replacing the teak trim on the exterior of our 30. Do any of these books have that information or is there a book someone could recommend? Thanks
