The winches on my Typhoon are in need of maintenance. Can any Typhoon owners tell me how to dis-assemble them. Thanks in advance.

Which manufacturer made you winches. Usually by removing the ring at the top of winch will allow you to lift the drum off and get to the paws. You pnly have single speed winches so the operation is very quick and easy.

The winches on my Typhoon (hull 696)are Gibb winches. There is a #2 flathead screw in the center of the winch handle socket. Undo that and the drum will lift right off.
Parts for this model are less easy. Arco winches are sold as Gibb in Europe; I am unsure as to who the distributer is here.
4 years ago (pre net) I traced down a vendor in Florida (whose name & paperwork escape me now) who listened to my description and sent, gratis, the wrong parts. Tired of the chase, I used a flat file, cleaned up the paul faces, and lubed it up.
It's been 4 years and they still work fine.
Good luck.

my '76 ty has lewmar winches. remove the screw in the bottom of the winch handle socket and the winch drum will lift off. be careful the pawl springs don't pop on you and get deep-sixed.
