I have opportunity to purchase a cape dory 25 1975 in very good shape
for 3,500. No extras, motor in disrepair, original sails, no trailer.
Is this a good value as is ?

Rich,
If "very good shape" means solid hull, good standing rigging, usable original sails, etc I'd say the price is a very good value. I bought my '77 CD25 two years ago- no upgrades, but well cared for solid boat in good shape for 6 thousand (owner was asking 7,500). I feel any CD25 in good shape for less than 6,000 is a good buy. But... location is a factor too. Getting a survey is also a good idea. Make the guy an offer- I love my boat... My wife was against my getting a kayak (too expensive she said) so when I got the CD25 for three times more I thought I would be in the dog house... So far, no complaints. Good luck, I don't think you will be disappointed with a CD25.

p.s. I've got a good 7.5hp evinrude I will sell to you for $400. I'm in Chesapeake bay area.

It doesn't sound bad but depends on the local market. When you say no extra's what does that mean? Battery? Anchors? Life jacktets? Stove?
Genoa? If the orginal sails haven't seen much sunlight they may be ok but may be questionable.
I purchased a 77 CD25 this winter in very good shape with new main, 4 year old cruising spinnaker, 6 yr old 150%, old working jib, 2 burnner alcohol stove, 2 person inflateable dingy, adjustable wisker pole and a 10 yr old 6 hp evindrude for $5k. This was on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay.
