Just returning from a mini trip south. Last Friday I left on the boat "Snow Queen" from Robinhood and had a great trip down the coast thru the CC Canal, NY City and ending up at Tom River NJ. Along the way Bob pointed out the different places to stop and where not to stop. Cathy, about 3 AM Sunday Bob pointed out Atlantic Highlands, which will probably be one place for me to rest and restock.

This is a painful post, I retired in Aug. but stayed on at work temporarily while they searched for my replacement. Ads were posted, interviews were held however no one was hired. The town manager then asked if I would consider staying until spring. Being an old fashion person, I promised my staff I would not leave until a replacement was found. So here I sit in my recliner thinking of doing the maintenance on my snowblower instead of doing maintenance on my Yanmar. Thanks to all for your input, advice, and offers to crew. (Thanks Bill2 & Seahunt).

A good year to head south
Well, Solmar,
You're missing a good year to make the trip. There are fewer boats on the ICW than I've seen since the 70's. Marinas have empty slips, overnight rates are as low as $1.00/ft in many places, and the anchorages are sparsely populated. The weather is gorgeous with no hurricane threats. Fuel costs have berthed many of the trawlers, crabbers, and shrimpers. There are also fewer shoal problems judging from reports from boats underway. Guess what I'm saying is the ICW is devoid of much of the traffic of past years and the good weather makes the trip much more enjoyable for the fewer boats that are out there doing it.
The down side is that many transient-dependent places are going belly-up for lack of business and others are suffering badly with layoffs everywhere.
I'll be going one way or another be it on my boat (with a new engine) or aboard a friend's CD-36. Wish your plans would allow you to head out as it's a great time to do so.
