CD typhoon repair/refurb needed in Newnan GA.
Folks,
I have a CD typhoon (fully open cockpit). I'm looking for someone who refurbishes similar boats near Newnan, GA. That's about 25 miles south of Atlanta, GA. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Joe

Hey Joe,
I have no idea who you'll get to refurbish that Ty Daysailer, but whatever you do, don't let anyone talk you out of getting rid of it.
Lucky you. You're sitting on a gold mine. Very rare. Very few made. They sell in a heart beat.
Hey everybody, I've got first dibs on it.
O J
PS: Keep in touch.

Really?
OJ,
I have been pretty discouraged by its current state and it did cross my mind (selling it and starting over). But I think I want to see if I can find someone to do some work on it. I really love sailing it and the bench seating and full keel is perfect for taking my kids out (no capsizing).
Thanks,
Joe

Joe,
You can do it yourself -- promise. We're outside of Athens if you want a little moral support or guidance. There's a great place for teak in Atlanta if your boat needs it. I may have a few extra parts leftover you may need too.
We're out of town until Oct 8. Send me a PM or email and I'd be happy to share pictures, sources, etc. I have lots of pictures I can share from my Ty restoration. She was a weekender, but the concept is the same!

Because...
...a seven year old, a nine year old, a full time job and an 8 day a month Naval Reserve job.... I figured I could refurbish the typhoon or stay married. Divorces are more expensive than boat repair (I think).

Is the boat at your house? I bought a shelter from Sam's Club for $199 and hung a 4' fluorescent light from the peak. It made piecemeal repairs very practical. If the boat can't be worked on at home, it is a lot harder. Some kids make good little worker bees too.
If you're going to pay for someone to restore it, you would be financially better off to just buy a restored one -- although the weekenders are far easier to find. (And I'd be happy to talk to you about moving her to MY yard )
What kind of repairs are you talking about?

The teak (toerail?) needs to be replaced and the fiberglass has some cracks (some pretty significant.) Also, it has a Georgia Red clay problem. Maybe a new bottom. The standing rigging is OK but could use a tuneup. It is at my house but is in the water. I bought a trailer but haven't put it on it yet. (Yep I bought it in the lake it sits in, never saw the bottom...I'm a gambler.)
