LOCATING TEAK BOARDS
Looking for a source to buy teak boards to make toerail and gunwale for a weekender. I have about 10 feet of storm damage.

Re: LOCATING TEAK BOARDS
To one and all,
Try looking on the "woodweb" for teak and other woods as well. As a cabinetmaker I visit this site regularly and have often seen teak available. I will be using it soon as I restore my 'Alberg' SouthCoast 23,a CD22 twin.

Re: LOCATING TEAK BOARDS
Having done a lot of teak repair and harwood projects, I suggest a look in the phone book under Hardwoods. You didn't tell us where you live, but there are several sources:
Local; as I suggested..the phone book.
Magazine Ads; All of the sailing magazines have a section in the back which carries at least one major source of teak wood.
Catalogs; Defender does carry some good tak boards, all in 3 ft. lengths I believe. Expensive, but the wood is solid good quality. I have used this source on two projects.
Truck in from another location; THere is a great Hardwood source in Minneapolis, Minn. known as Youngbloods. They wil send via truck also. They carry some **really** exotic woods, if you are interested..cocobolo wood anyone?
Good Luck,

About 6 months ago I priced teak 4/4 $15.12 b/f, in lengths 8' to 10'. Georgia Hardwoods (near Atlanta) 770-932-0640.jim parmentier wrote: Looking for a source to buy teak boards to make toerail and gunwale for a weekender. I have about 10 feet of storm damage.

Re: LOCATING TEAK BOARDS
I did such a repair job on my CD30 a few years ago. I used 5/4 teak stock that was 12' long and about 3 and a half inches wide. I ripped a strip wide enough to plane smooth for the replacement piece. I also filled in all the holes and put in new screws at about the same places.jim parmentier wrote: Looking for a source to buy teak boards to make toerail and gunwale for a weekender. My teak source was Anchor Hardwoods in Wilmington, N.C. Lin Ainsworth, the owner, is honest, knowledgeable, and quite willing to offer sound advice. The website is http://anchor.wilmington.net.

Re: St Angelo Hardwoods
St Angelo Hardwoods has (or had) cutters for all the mouldings, but never had an index that indicated what shape was for which part of what model boat.
Recently, their web site exclaims that they no longer supply parts for Cape Dory boats. Earlier this week, I wrote to ask if the cutters and templates (if there are any) are available for acquisition. If I am successful, I will let everyone know.
