Yep, Right On Schedule

Six months ago in the middle of last February and I was up to my armpits in snow, I proclaimed to all of the world of the scheduling for summer in Eden on the Lake. You all have heard, surely, of the Farmers Almanac. Well here in Camelot our lives and fortunes are dependent on the Salmon Fishermen's Almanac.

This year, summer in Paradise was predicted to occur on Tuesday, Aug. 18 between 11:43 AM and 4:17 PM EDT. Bingo, right on schedule, yesterday's temperature soared to 89° F. By nightfall, the temperature plummeted to 64° F. I don't know how they do it but I have never seen them miss. BTW, the salmon are starting to school up our in the lake. I have heard on several occasions that the fish get an annual "itch" that drives them upstream to the place of their origination. Sometime between Labor Day and holloween, a person could walk across the Oswego River on the backs of the lust driven salmon. Clean out the freezer, maw, and get 'er ready for another year of steaks, fillets, lox and salmon paté.

Speaking of weather, this Saturday is supposed to be something special. About every ten years or so we have a family reunion. They have to treat me special and fawn all over me. You see, I am the family patriarch. LOL Haw haw, ho ho . Now ain't I sump'n. Hee hee. Patriarch. That's a knee slapper.

We have been planning for over a year to go on a week long cruise to New England and Canada. We sail out of NYC on Saturday afternoon. So guess what else might be in NY this Saturday? Hurricane Bill. The NYC area gets a hurricane or its remnants every forty years or so like clockwork. Yep, right on schedule.

Even if we do leave port, the seas for hundres of miles around will be very heavy. There will most likely be an echo in the dining halls.
"Surf's up dude" in the swimming pools. Woo hoo, it should be interesting.

Consider this a bump or a nudge to keep your eye on the weather and what might be coming. Secure your boats, double check your storm precautions. Bill hasn't established a positive direction yet so keep a sharp weather eye on it.

Thanks O.J. I got down and did some tidying up on the boat today. I also sucured her for high winds. I had planned to get down anyway but your post was a good reminder.

It always amazes me how few and how little people prepare for high winds in our mooring field. At least I am near the outside so there are not that many boats upwind of me.

The great thing about you doing a cruise out of NY with Bill is that it will pretty well ensure perfect weather for the folks you left at home.

Just as Mother Nature planned it all along, no? And with salmon as compensation?? That has to go a LONG way to assuaging any ill feelings! (Why do I feel the sudden urge to cook something?)

"Patriarch". . .well, it's a dirty job but somebody has to do it. I think the longest-lived and most worthy is nominated. Hang in there, you can do it. I would be ecstatic if my far-flung daughters were available for a reunion, and I got to reign as "matriarch": currently, the older lives in Bogota and the younger is en route to her new job in. . .Beirut. Count your blessings, my friend. (But I know you do.)

At some point, I really should post pictures of our most excellent rudder repair, effected--in large part--to your very generous help and advice. It's AWESOME! Even looks like we knew what we were doing!
