OK maybe I am giddy for the approaching season and launching of Second Chance.
First of all: Whomever posted the suggestion of using Easy-off oven cleaner to get that last trace of old varnish off the gelcoat deserves praise. Prior owners had glopped on the varnish and it became built up in the corners and on the adjacent gelcoat. I just finished stripping all the teak with a heat gun (works great) and I was left with ugly yellow traces of varnish on the adjacent gel. I sprayed easy off, let it sit for a couple of minutes, and wiped up with a scotchbrite pad. Came off like magic!! Then rinsed with vinegar and water solution to neutralize the chemical. NOTE: WEAR MASK, GOGGLES AND RUBBER GLOVES: THIS STUFF IS NOT NICE. Without this board, I think alot of us Good Old CDers would be trialling and erroring quite a bit.
Second of all: after stripping and cleaning (with Teak-Nu) the boat looks like a new yacht!! The wood is no longer old, sloppy varnish, but beautiful blonde teak. Too bad that the teak won't naturally stay that color!
I plan to finish with Honey Teak. I trial finished the tiller with Honey Teak last year and it still looks fresh. I plan to post some pics when it's all done.
