I was in 3 marine supply stores this week picking up supplies for spring maintenance. I needed a good waterproof grease and most of them handed me Lithium grease. I've used it before on non marine things. I want to use it my seacocks and winches when I reassemble them after taking them apart for cleaning. Now for the question that nobody in any of the marine stores could answer. Lithium is a metal. Will using lithium grease on bronze seacocks and winches or other metals lead to electrolytic incompatability and therefore corrosion?

Re: Lithium Grease
Warren: All I can say is that my company remanufactures marine alternators and Starter Motors and we use Lithium Grease by the ton. It is one of the most indestructible substances on earth and will withstand and protect anything.Warren Kaplan wrote: I was in 3 marine supply stores this week picking up supplies for spring maintenance. P.S. We warrant our Remanufactured Alternators and Starter Motors the same as Delco Remy's new and many feel that ours are better than new.

Re: Lithium Grease
Per recommendation of a boatyard, I have been using white lithium grease that comes in a spray can on my bronze seacocks for 3 years and have no corrosion.
Re: Lithium Grease
Spartan Marine has a seacock grease that works VERY WELL on bronze seacocks, I've used it on LaVida for 6 years now and am very happy.

Re: Lithium Grease not elemental lithium
lithium is a very unstable metal and i believe elemental lithium actually burns in air. the grease i think uses lithium sulfide which should not cause corrosion.
