Proper Prop for CD 28/Volvo MD7A

Post by warrenescape »

Recently had a lot of work done on the Volvo engine - starts fast and runs strong - but I max out at about 1600 rpm's - I would think it should go up to 2000 - 2500 rpm's - my first thought was prop pitch - so I am checking mine (diver) - wondering if folks know the proper pitch/prop (2 blade)? Thanks - Warren

Proper Prop

Post by Oswego John »

I'm just wondering.

Are you still using the same prop as you used before the engine work was done?

What was the top end RPMs before the engine work was done?

I assume that there is no appreciable marine growth on the prop or hull at this time.

engine RPM - Volvo MD7A

Post by warrenescape »

The prop is the same as prior to the work being done - I bought the boat in Jan - since I knew it had an overheating problem I did not run the engine north of 1100 RPM prior to the repairs - so I really do not know - have you had experience with the same model engine? If so, what have you experienced regarding RPM range?

Thx - Warren

My '79 has a 13 x 13 LH prop. It works well (pushes the boat at hull speed at about 2200 rpms) and I think it is original.

Stork ('82 30C) has a 13 x 12 3-blade. It will run up to 22-2300, but I almost always run it around 1800 for economy. That pushes her a little over 5 k in flat water.
