Typhoon trailer

Post by Fred G. »

Ned,
After looking at a few mfrgs., I bought a trailer from Triad in CT 2 years ago. It is a very well -built trailer - a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. There are options available 7 each trailer is custom built. I wouldn't hesitate to trailer my boat across the country with this trailer. Also, dealing with Michael Orro (the owner)was a pleasure. With hydraulic brakes & a few options, it cost slightly over $3,000. Look @ their website for all the particulars.

Thanks, Fred, for your reply. Triad is the company I am most impressed with and your experience verifies my impressions.

Research Tires

Post by shavdog »

When it comes to trailers, make sure you understand the different ratings on tires...I bought a used triad trailer with 300 miles on it...the tires were three yrs old and I had my 22 towed 1000 miles to my home...to make a very long story short, I had over 1700 dollars in service calls along with two blown tires, two destroyed rims, broken ubolts and broken wiring. I spoke to triad trailers directly and yes they make a very nice trailer but no they arent experts in tires...they werent very interested in my problem and referred me to the tire company...the tires they put on this trailer were not rated for this kind of travel...they were ok for movement around the yard and short trips but in no way a trip down the highway...make sure you do some online research when it comes to tires...and properly inflate them..they take alot of air..tires are a pretty complicated subject so my point is...know what you own..

Triad

Post by barfwinkle »

I have Triad trailor #1 built for a CD 26. It was built in the 90s and lived in Rhode Island and was fairly rusty when purchased used.

When I got it home to Oklahoma I started "rebuilding" it and the first thing I did was replace the wheels, tires and the wheel drums. The previous posters is correct when discussing inflation. I keep my tires at 70 PSI while hauling Rhapsody about.

The quality of construction is on par I guess with other manufacturers. When I recently had the trailer sand plasted and painted, I called Triad to get some "Triad" decals and once I proved it was his trailer, he sent them. A trailer is a worthwhile investment and increases the value of the boat, but you know this.

I towed the Typhoon Weekender I bought from Lake Lanier to San Antonio, TX. It was setting on a Triad trailer and I didn't have any problems. That was over a 1000 mile trip straight through only stopping for gas. All I did before starting the trip was jack up the trailer and check to see that the wheel bearings were in good conditions and well lubricated.

The only problem I have is that the Triad trailer does not have a identification number on the frame. Triad tells me that they can give me a number if I can tell them who the original purchaser was. But, because the boat has had numerous owners and some are now deceased I cannot comply with their request.
