In my quest to find a CD Typhoon, for day sailing in New England, what are the important points to look for, or avoid? Typically, boats of any kind have their strengths, weaknesses and cautions.
What are your thoughts and experiences, please?

Hi Jay- Being deep into a Ty restoration I can verify the info found on this site in older posts. Main things to look for are (1)deck, cabintop, cockpit, stern, seat water intrusion and rotten core, (2)Rudder problems associated with the rudder separating from the post, and (3)cabintop compression from overtightening the standing rigging. Hull blisters, cracked gelcoat, missing or rusted backingplates are some other problems that some have had. Since the boats are getting pretty old now gelcoat cracking happens alot, the gelcoat is not as flexible as the underlying fiberglass and sometimes will spidercrack around stress areas- not a big problem as long as the fiberglass underneath isn't cracked as well.
