Fenix completes circumnavigation

Post by John Vigor »

I'm sure the whole board joins me in congratulating Fred Bickum on completing his singlehanded circumnavigation of the world on his Cape Dory 28, Fenix. Fred has crossed his outward track and has tied the knot, although at this moment he is apparently still at sea on his way to his final destination in Florida. The voyage started on May 5, 2006.

This is a singular occasion, the first singlehanded voyage around the world by a CD 28, and Fred has accomplished it superbly, without drama or false heroics.

No doubt he will report in on the Cruiser's Corner section of this board, as he always does, when he reaches port and the champagne corks start to pop. Meanwhile you can check out his personal website:

http://www.sbastro.com/FeNIX/mainFrameSet.htm

Here you will find all the details of the changes he made to Fenix before the start and underway.

Welcome home, Fred, and well done. Very well done indeed.

Fred,

Congratulations to you for this great accomplishment. You have completed what myself and many others have only dreamed of doing.

Great job, Fred.

Congrats - many here wish they could do what you have just done - myself included - you went out and just did it.

Now - have you thought about the book that you'll be authoring ? I'd be honored if you would put me down for a copy :-)

Good Luck

Congratulations Fred. I have thoroughly enjoyed following your journey. While few will ever attempt a circumnavigation (single-handed at that) I'm sure it will inspire many to venture a little farther out on the horizon, whether on their boats or in other endeavors.

Hi all,

Thank's everyone for the kind words.

Fenix and I are currently in Key West. Will head out Thursay AM for the Tampa area.

Since I crossed my out bound track more than a week ago I could say I am starting my second circumnavigation(?).

Take care,
Fred

Congatulations & Thanks for the Updates

Fred,

congratulations! And thank you for the updates. As more of an "armchair circumnavigator", I certainly enjoyed your updates. I will really miss them -- reading the old ones aver again just isn't the same.

You really have expanded the limits of the possible. For me anyway. Thank you so much for sharing your adventure.

Congrats Fred. What are the plans down the road? Stay on the hard for a while? Does anyone know how many CD's have completed a circumnavigation?

Congratulations, Fred, for accomplishing such an amazing feat. I too have followed you as you sailed around the world and marvel at your skill, determination and fortitude.

Oh to be 30 years younger and single so I could possibly consider such a trip!
