I'm with Stan on reconsidering the spinnaker. You might have more fun with the non-spinnaker CD fleet.

As for the course, study the Boston harbor chart and you won't have a problem. There are just a few marks to keep you going in the figure 8 and they're easy to spot. Not much in the way of hidden hazards, either. You should especially study the chart for the early part of the race; with your handicap, there won't be anyone in front of you then. Later on, you can follow Stan for as long as he's in sight.

I am planning a similar schedule to Stan's, although I am certain I will arrive back at George's somewhat later than he does. Arrival Friday pm, anchor in Portugeuse Cove, muddle through the race, meet at George's, anchor back at Peddock's, leave Sunday.

I look forward to seeing/meeting you all.

Is everyone planning on attending the Captains meeting, heading to the cocktail reception after? If so, maybe a few introductions before we get to the starting line?

I have sailed around the islands once before, so I am at least somewhat familiar with the route.

I planned to attend the captain's meeting. I wonder how I would get to Portuguese Cove Friday night.

My plan is to sail from Salem Friday. Moor in Boston waterfront on Fri night. Go to the captains meeting Fri night. Pick up crew (aka family) Sat morning. Finish the race well to the rear. Go to the party on Georges. Then anchor overnight at Portuguese Cove with all of you. Sail back to Salem on Sunday.

I wonder a couple things:

Is it possible to anchor on an island and get a ferry to Long Wharf, then ride back after dark?

Failing that, is there a decent place to moor on the Boston waterfront? I found a couple places that have launch service and/or allow you to tie off a dinghy.

My wife would like to sail the race, come to Georges Island for the barbeque, then head back to Boston (she doesn't want to sleep on board). Is that possible with the ferries?

I'm really looking forward to this and meeting the fellow sailors. It would be great to meet you on Fri if you will be at the captain's meeting.

I'll be attending the captain's meeting. Stan and others who are anchored out can't easily get there. In the past, I've picked up race packets for those who are anchored and tossed them to the other boats on the morning of the race, transferring crew, as well. Happy to do the same this year. For those attending the captain's meeting on Friday night, let's figure an easy way to connect.

There's no easy way to get from the Boston waterfront to the islands on Friday night. I'd get a mooring overnight in Boston harbor, especially since you're picking up crew on Saturday morning.

If your wife is on Georges after the race, there's ferry service back to Boston.

I'll see you at the captain's dinner on Friday.

Thanks to the official saction of the Northeast Fleet Captain, class warfare will be alive and well at the upcoming Boston Harbor Island Regatta.

Are 27s better sailors than 28? What about 25s? Etc.? There's been endless debate on this message board about which size and which design is the better/faster boat. In two weeks, we'll know.

Final details on scoring are still to be deteremined but minimum class size will be one boat. Formal recognition of the winning class and presentation of awards will take place at the all important Northeast Fleet winter meeting.

I would have loved to join, but my best friend's wedding is on the same day. How inconsiderate of them to plan a wedding on the same day as the regatta!!

I am defintely going down for the regatta, but rules require minimum 2 people aboard. If you are interested in crewing, please send me a pm using the link below, or email at royjacobowitz(at)hotmail(dot)com. I can't promise highly competitive sailing, but it will be fun and I promise not to lighten the boat by removing either the beer or the single malt. As you know accommodations on the cd-25 are tight, so you can choose to make a weekend of it, or join me and Auburn immediately before the race and return to either Quincy or Boston right after.

Unfortunately due to crew issues I'm withdrawing my Cape Dory25 from the BHIR.
My two crew members are out of town on business.
My 1 backup crew is not happy with the weather forecast.
I'm hoping I might be able to crew on a Cape Dory.

Anyone need another crew member?

Take another look. Wind is not a 10 knot easterly for Saturday. Sure, it might rain. Has he never been wet before?

The weather forecast has a high degree of uncertainty.

I was in the Island Alliance/BHIR office yesterday picking up my bow numbers, and there was talk of pushing the race back to Sunday if need be.
